Father Giuseppe Maria Angelisti
Born in Petriolo on April 14th, 1689 – Died in Montolmo (Corridonia) on December 30th, 1760
Son of Francesco Maria Angelisti and Smeralda Catalani, Giuseppe Maria was christened with the name Giovanni Battista. In 1706, he earned the status of owner of the Santa Maria del Suffragio’s ecclesiastical benefice.
In 1709, Father Angelisti entered the Seraphic Order the Capuchins from Cingoli, with the name Giuseppe Maria. Distinguishing for his compassion and devotion, he focused his religious activity in the preaching. Once moved to Montolmo’s monastery, he stayed there till the end of his life, when he became sick.
Father Giuseppe Maria Angelisti died on December 30th, 1760 in odor of sanctity. His funeral was celebrated triumphantly, and his corpse remained in exposition for three days, mysteriously surrounded by light.
The printed version of the essay (1761) written to certify his sainthood is preserved in the Provincial Archive.
