Marco De Nobili
Born in Petriolo on August 4th, 1770 – Died in Macerata on May 24th, 1855
Son of Nicola De Nobili, Marco completed his early studies in Petriolo, before moving to Fermo. There, he dedicated himself to academic classes of literature and rhetoric. He also attended Italian and Latin poetry lessons held by the abbot Garulli.
Later, he entered the University of Macerata, studying Jurisprudence and civil and canonical Law. Marco De Nobili started committing to the legal practice under the direction of Domenico Pantaleoni. The fruitful collaboration lasted for three years, and at the end De Nobili received honors.
Monsignor Angelo Altieri, General Governor of the Marca of Ancona, wanted De Nobili to work for him, so Altieri charged him to fulfill the vice auditor position. Two years later, Marco De Nobili moved to Rome, where he worked at the law firm of the attorney Baldini. De Nobili stayed in Rome for six years.
Graduated in civil and canonical law in 1795 in Macerata, in the same year, he became an associate of the famous local Accademia dei Catenati. Marco De Nobili was elected Governor of Petriolo between 1799-1800.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century Marco De Nobili moved to Macerata, where he got in touch with the social revolutionist movement of the Carboneria. Around 1821, he appeared to be involved in a revolutionary attempt in the regional county seat, Ancona. With some friends of his, including Pirro Aurispa (1799-1868), he planned an armed revolt starting from Macerata and heading to the neighbouring villages. The aim was to persuade the rebels to rise up in the whole Le Marche region. They were supported by the promised participation made by the patriots of Reign of Naples.
The plan failed because of the betrayal made by some of the affiliates. Then, Marco De Nobili focused on the legal practice.
Marco De Nobili died on May 24th, 1855 at the age of 84.
