Count Giuseppe Maria Francesco Antonio Giovanni Nepomuceno Sabbioni was the tenth and the youngest son of Count Francesco Saverio Sabbioni (1724-1807) and Eleonora Morrone (1747-1834).
After being graduated in Law, he was nominated Governor in the following cities of the Pontifical State: Matelica (1830-1834), Montefiascone (1834-1838), Tolentino (1840-1844), Assisi (1844-1847). After having inherited Petriolo’s civic properties, which his father had bought in 1804, Giuseppe Sabbioni finally moved to Petriolo. There, he was elected Head of the City Administration from 1815 till the Unification of Italy. He gained the respect and the affection of the citizens of Petriolo.
Sabbioni was an expert of Petriolo’s historical events. Between 1871 and 1873, he published at his own expense two big volumes titled “Il castello di Petriolo-Piceno”. It contained historical notes and statistics on Petriolo, and many unreleased documents. “Il castello di Petriolo-Piceno” is a fine work, rich in historical knowledge and documents, collected through Sabbioni’s shrewd activity of research. He did copious and profound documentary research, so that his work was highly appreciated by the scholars of that time for its accuracy and completeness.
At the age of 29, he married the noble marquise Camilla Castellani (Born in Treia on August 6th, 1786 – Died in Petriolo on February 18th, 1862) on October 24th, 1818. Daughter of the noble marquis Federico Castellani from Treia and countess Anna Simonetti from Cingoli, Camilla’s most powerful relative was cardinal Francesco Saverio Castiglioni, who was elected Pope with the name Pio VIII (1829-1830).
Giuseppe Sabbioni and Camilla Castellani had two daughters: Marianna, nicknamed Anna, who was born in Fermo on September 8th, 1819 and Orsola, born in Fermo on January 21st, 1824. Marianna married the count Francesco Cilleni Nepis from Assisi; Orsola married the knight Federico Rinaldi from Città della Pieve.
Sabbioni died in Petriolo on January 8th, 1874 at the age of 84. His corpse lies in the Municipal Cemetery of Petriolo, next to his wife, his daughter Anna and his son-in-law Francesco Cilleni Nepis.
